Cat That Sleeps Like 'He Has a Cold' Melts Hearts Online

An unphotogenic cat has once again taken the internet by storm after a popular Reddit post captured a cat that sleeps "like he has a cold."

The cat named Pete was shared by his owner to popular Subreddit "What's Wrong With Your Cat" where people share images of their cats looking less-than-beauty-pageant worthy.

Pete has gained attention online after receiving over 16,000 votes on a post titled "Meet Pete. This is him asleep. Pete is not photogenic."

The image showed the black and white fluffy cat laid backwards on his bed, seeming in a deep sleep, with his mouth hanging wide open.

"He's alive," reassured owner "Krobbox" in a response on the post. According to the owner, Pete doesn't just look unphotogenic while sleeping, but sounds different too.

"Notice the tongue suctioned to the roof of his mouth? Makes him sound like he has a cold too," they wrote.

Despite appearing small in the picture, "he's actually a big boy," clarified Pete's owner, adding that he has "an incredibly large fluffy tail to match.

"He is beyond unreasonably soft. The belly is the softest but also the most forbidden. Totally worth being shredded for."

Pete provoked reactions of joy from Reddit, who rushed to compliment him on his unphotogenic-yet-cute appearance.

"Pete is perfect and I love him," wrote one Reddit user.

"I mean this in the best way...The cat looks like bad taxidermy," added another.

One user wrote: "Pete is beautiful. No one looks stunning when asleep."

"Looks like Pete is sleeping off a 5 day bender. He's awesome," commented another Reddit user.

"Reminds me of Marat in the Tub," noted one user, referencing a famous painting, The Death of Marat by Jacques-Louis David, which depicts the French revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat half-hanging out of the bathtub after being fatally stabbed.

Unphotogenic cats have seemingly always been able to melt hearts online. In 2020, the "#unflatteringcatphotos" challenge became popular on Twitter, where owners shared images of their cats looking the worse for wear.

Ranging from unflattering poses to off-putting angles and faces, the snaps captured felines at their worst, but still managed to trigger "awws" all around.

The fascination with unflattering cats hasn't died down since either. Just last week, a cat "sitting like he's traumatized," similarly went viral on Reddit.

The picture showed the black and white cat sitting on the sofa with his chin resting on the armrest as he stared off into the distance, appearing to be in a daze.
