As Russia continues its reign of terror, a team of Ukrainian soldiers have shown the world a small moment of kindness within the conflict.

In a widely shared video from FreedomNewsTV, Ukrainian soldiers were seen caring for a puppy in the trenches, after discovering him scared and alone in an open field nearby.

The soldiers, stationed in Bahmut, Ukraine, affectionately named the pup Rambo, inspired by the action film series which covers a perspective of a Vietnam veteran's experience behind enemy lines.

During the three-minute video, a soldier says: "He is our protector, right Rambo? We felt sorry for him. It was freezing outside. We took him into our post and he stayed with us."

The black and white puppy has been given a role within the ranks - a security watchdog.

The solider added: "He is our security. That is his job. He is our watchdog. He can hear very well if there is a stranger nearby."

A second solider responds: "Rambo is doing a hecking good job! Best doggo."

Rambo is not the only dog to have settled near the Ukrainian soldiers as three others - Babai, Myha - which translate to fly - and Babai, Malish - meaning baby - have made the trenches their new home.

"The dogs act as guards, they help us. They react to sounds. Something that a human won't hear, the dogs will, they feel it," added the soldier.

Providing an insight into life in the Ukraine trenches, the solider explained how everybody is well fed, including the dogs - but expressed just how much he is missing his family.

He added: "I am missing home, of course. I have been here for a little too long now."

While most users shared their well wishes with the Ukrainian soldiers, others spoke about how the dog has provided them with hope and happiness during such a difficult time.

One user said: "Life is better with a dog by your side. Godspeed Rambo."

Another added: "I hope these soldiers and dog will be safe."

A third said: "Amazing. Soldiers, you are our hero. Thank you and Gold bless to you all."

It comes as thousands of Russians flee their country amid fears Vladimir Putin will turn on his own people and close the borders, leaving them unable to escape his tyranny.

Trains full of desperate people lugging heavy luggage travelling from St Petersburg have pulled into Helsinki railway station this week.

The route is the only available option for people wanting to travel between Russia and an EU country by rail.

More and more are turning to the option since much of the West has closed its airspace to Russian planes, leaving flights grounded.

Many men have also been fleeing the country as they fear Putin will start conscripting those not already fighting into his armed forces to join the illegal invasion of Ukraine.
