While sceptics debate the existence of ghosts, others would swear blind they have experienced the paranormal, turning them into lifelong believers.
Sharing his spooky encounter on Reddit, one man explained how he was spending the night at home alone with his dog when he got the fright of his life.
He is convinced his dog warned him about ghost standing in his doorway, with him believing he heard it 'muttering' to itself or another entity.
He said: "So last night I'm sitting in my room on my computer. My dog Ox, who is a rottweiler and isn't afraid of anything, runs into my room, whining.
"I really didn't get what was going on.

"I tried to comfort him but he only tried to push himself further under my bed. I live alone and was kind of freaked out by this."
After searching his house, the man went to bed feeling uneasy despite not finding anything out of the ordinary.
He added: "It was hard to fall asleep. I woke up to the sound of Ox growling.
"I shot up and asked ''What's wrong boy?'. He kept his eyes on my door all his hairs on his back were up. I could feel my hands begin to shake.
"Out of nowhere a voice says - and let me tell you this voice was demonic and gave me chills - ''The dog can see us, he can't yet, he will though'.
"Now, I don't know if they were talking to me or to someone else but it f****** terrified me.
"Then a door slammed, I'm not sure which one. It was either the bathroom door or the closet."
Admitting he was scared to spend another night in his house, the man shared his encounter in hopes others would be able to put his mind to rest.
One user said: "Keep an eye on the location your dog is spotting. Try and get us a picture if you can.
"It's possible your camera can pick out things your dog might or might not be seeing. Best of luck to you. Hopefully you find sleep"
While another user added: "Salt the doors and draw a devil's trap on the door. It is said that demons or spirits can't cross those."
A third said: "What I would do is get a cross necklace and get it blessed and wear it to bed so if it's a demon, it can't harm you.
"But dude it's just a suggestion and I would move out if I were you."
