Authorities were able to rescue a horse stuck in a ditch in Butler County. Officials with the Wayne Township Fire Department say they were dispatched to an unnamed location in the township Thursday night for reports of a horse stuck in a ditch. That horse, a 23-year-old mare, was found laying on her side, unable to regain her balance and strength. It’s unclear how long the horse was in the ditch before rescuers arrived. A veterinarian was on the scene and was caring for the horse before fire units arrived. Additional resources were called in, including the Large Animal Rescue unit from Reily Township, as well as a Gator UTV from the Ross Township Fire Department for equipment transport. Authorities say the mare was finally able to regain her strength and stumbled to her feet on her own. “Huge thank you to all personnel and units on scene, as well as neighboring farmers who came to assist!” officials with the Wayne Township Fire Department wrote on social media.
