After nearly a week missing, Massachusetts Olympic hero Aly Raisman finds her dog
After nearly a week missing, Massachusetts native and two-time Olympian Aly Raisman says her missing dog has been found.
Just before sunset Friday, Raisman posted a picture on Instagram of her and her pet, Mylo, reunited.
"I have him. Mylo is safe. Thank you Carla, Gayle and her sweet dog," Raisman wrote on Instagram.
Carla Duran says they found Mylo enclosed in a fence near the University of Massachusetts Boston.
"I called the phone number (on Mylo's tag) and it was Aly's dad. He answered the phone and was like: 'What do you mean you have our dog? Can we FaceTime you?' I was like: 'Yeah, sure. I mean, if you're missing a blue-eyed dog then we've got him.'"
Raisman tweeted last Saturday night that her dog, Mylo, was terrified of the fireworks and ran off in the area of the Seaport District. She says the dog had a tag on, as well as a leash.
"I am so, so thankful and so happy, it's hard to put into words," Raisman said. "It honestly doesn't even feel real. I kept waking up in the middle of the night just making sure he was actually there."
Raisman asked people not to actively search for Mylo -- yelling his name or running around looking for him -- because the organization Missing Dogs Mass advised her that scared dogs will make bad decisions if they are pressured.
The Olympian says she now wants to use her platform to help others who are missing loved ones, whether they are pets or family members.
The Needham native was a member of the 2012 and 2016 U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, both of which won the gold medal. With two team and four individual Olympic medals, Raisman is the second-most decorated Olympic gymnast in American history.
The 27-year-old won the gold medal in the floor competition and the bronze on the balance beam at the 2012 London Olympics. At the 2016 Rio Games, she won silver medals in the individual all-around and for floor exercise.
