Big dog falls into septic tank, New Hampshire’s finest do the dirty work

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

That low-down dirty dog.

Animal control officers in New Hampshire sprung into action — and more — when an 85-pound German shepherd wound-up in a 500 gallon septic tank on Monday. A pair of officers teamed-up with a local homeowner to bring the filthy dog to safety after it had fallen 6-feet into the hole.

The Bedford, N.H., police department posted photos of the freshly rescued animal on Facebook

“This is what your dog looks like after it accidentally falls into a full 500 gallon septic tank while its being serviced. Poor little pup!” the Bedford PD wrote. “Animal Control Officer Paul and Officer Heikkila were able to pull the 85lb German Shepherd out of the tank using a catch pole and some ingenuity. The dog had a bath and is doing well. We think his owners were more panicked than he was, but we’re just happy we were able to help.”

Police also noted the dog’s adventure was a complete accident that shouldn’t be blamed on the pet’s owners. Facebook users responded by thanking the officers and expressing sympathy for the dog and its family.

“Poor dog????” wrote one commenter. “Poor owner gotta give the poor dog a bath. I feel worse for him. LOL”
