Costumed pooches strut their stuff at Tompkins Square Dog Halloween Parade

It’s a pug-nic!

A pug pup dressed up for Halloween as a bunch of grapes was one of hundreds of aww-worthy submissions to the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade’s annual costume contest, held virtually on Saturday.

Surrounded by all the faux fixings for a delightful afternoon at the park, 2-year-old Betsey looks as cute as can be wearing a cap and suit made of felt grapes while sitting perched inside a wicker basket.

Her owner, Lisa Kerner of Plainville, Massachusetts, aptly titled the submission “Feeling GRAPE.”

The winners of the 30th annual contest, held via video live stream on Saturday, will be selected this week by parade organizers with the Tompkins Square Dog Run.

Because the event was virtual this year due to coronavirus concerns, organizers opened up the contest to anyone, and submissions of festive pooches poured in from as far away as Canada and California.
