On Monday, he was transported out of the ICU, free of the deadly virus and surrounded by the doctors and nurses who treated him.

"Not today COVID," said Goulet's son Stephane. "You can hashtag that," he said laughing on Tuesday.

Goulet spent 24 days on a ventilator while in the hospital.

Stephane, who works at RRMC, commended the frontline health care workers who saved his dad.

"We didn't think he was going to make it. But, they came through. They really did. All of them did."

"We have a lot of success stories," said ICU nurse Leslie Allen who treated Goulet. "I think because of the pandemic and this particular case, this was a huge one."

When Goulet was transported out of the ICU, dozens of hospital staff members lined the halls to see him off with a roaring round of applause.

He will spend the next few weeks in respiratory and physical therapy before heading home and back to work.
