10-year-old raises money, helps provide 18,000 meals for those in need
A Brandon, Mississippi, 10-year-old used his legs to raise money for families in Mississippi.
Last Sunday James Pacelli rode his bike for 10 miles to raise money for the Mississippi Food Network.
“I saw on the news one day that the Mississippi Food Network needed backup meals for feeding Mississippi,” Pacelli said.
Pacelli said he was sitting at home with nothing to do when he came up with the idea.
“It’s definitely very boring at my house. It’s the same every day, playing with my dog outside or doing schoolwork inside. I thought the bike ride had a benefit for me and for others,” Pacelli said.
After his mom posted a video of his idea, the donations started rolling in.
"When he talked to me at first he said, ‘I have this idea.' He was casual about it. But then I thought he was really serious. He talked about what he wanted to do. I made a few tweaks. He made the video and it took off,” said Katy Pacelli, James’ mom.
People from 12 different states and three countries donated to Pacelli’s bike ride.
“There were people supporting us out there holding up signs and a water station. I want to say thank you to everybody who supported me,” Pacelli said.
Pacelli raised $3000 for the Mississippi Food Network. That will provide 18,000 meals for Mississippians in need.
