NC shelter cat is ‘a jerk’ and she’s single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human

The blatantly honest post by a Spruce Pine, North Carolina animal shelter about one of their cats has gone viral, in part due to the ‘cranky’ nature of the cat who needs a forever home. The Facebook post has been shared more than 5,000 times on social media since it went up on Wednesday.

The Facebook post, as well as the description of this kitty AKA ‘a jerk’ on the Mitchell County Animal Rescue website, reads

Meet Perdita, not for the faint of heart. LIKES: staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again; the song Cat Scratch Fever, the movie Pet Cemetery (Church is her hero), jump scares (her specialty), lurking in dark corners, being queen of her domicile, fooling shelter staff into thinking she’s sick (vet agrees…she’s just a jerk)

DISLIKES: the color pink, kittens (yuk they are so chipper), dogs, children, the Dixie Chicks, Disney movies, Christmas and last but NOT least…HUGS. She’s single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space. FREE ADOPTION.

Perdita has a sad story behind her arrival at the shelter. Her owner died. My guess is her person treated her like royalty and she was most likely an only pet since no mention is made of her arrival with another cat or dog. This poor kitty is likely grieving and possibly even angry as to the turn her life has taken over the past month.

Even if the description of Perdita is true, haven’t we all had a cat or two who could be described as ‘a jerk?’ The comments on the Mitchell County Animal Shelter Facebook page are hilarious. Perdita is very popular now, with more than 2,800 comments on her post.
