Greyhound offers free rides home to runaway children
Greyhound is continuing its partnership with the National Runaway Safeline to help runaway children come home. The bus company says hundreds of kids and teenagers who have run away can get a free ride home with Greyhound, anywhere in the U.S. It's part of Greyhound's "Home Free Program."Greyhound has partnered with the NRS to bring runaway children home since 1995.The Home Free program provides free Greyhound tickets to runaway youth between the ages of 12 to 21 who would like to be reunited with their families. By contacting the NRS helpline, eligible youth receive resources needed to help lead to a safe and successful reunion. If a young person is under the age of 15, the program will also provide a ticket for their parent or legal guardian."Greyhound's 22-year partnership with the National Runaway Safeline has been invaluable in creating a safe and successful reunification process for runaway youth and their families," Kim Plaskett, Greyhound vice president of marketing said in 2017. "It is our hope that continuing to provide resources to runaway youth will bring comfort to those looking to reconnect with their loved ones."Here's how it worksTo qualify for a ticket home, the child must be between 12 and 21 years old and has to call the NRS helpline at 1-800-RUNAWAY. The child must also be named on a runaway report, and the child and the family must mutually agree to the reunion. Greyhound says it will also provide a free ticket for a parent or legal guardian if the young person is under the age of 15.
