A beagle named "Jossie" is safe and sound after an incredible ordeal on Thursday. The dog became trapped in the Genesee River Gorge at Letchworth State Park while on a hike with her owner.

After several attempts at a rescue by other park visitors, the State Park Police High Angle Rescue Team and a river rescue team from Adventure Calls Rafting were called in. The area where the dog became trapped is more than 400 feet deep and has a mixture of sheer cliffs and steep wooded slopes.

Eventually, officers and park employees were able to spot "Jossie" with the aid of a drone and bring the dog to safety. Following the incident, the New York State Park Police are reminding pet owners to obey leash laws while visiting state parks.
