She cried when she heard that a rescue cat had been at a shelter for 4 years. What happened next?

A female vet tech telephoned PAWS Chicago, an animal shelter, and made an enquiry about adopting the pet who’d been at the shelter the longest. The eligible feline was 16-year-old Pierre who has diabetes and who had been at PAWS Chicago for four years. He needs 2 jabs daily. Actually he was three days short of his 4 year anniversary at the shelter.

“Adopters Madeline and Megan came in looking specifically for him, the longest term cat in our program. They have experience with special cats like Pierre and are more than willing to give him the home he truly deserves…”

The vet tech was doing that most charitable of things: making the most unwanted animal wanted. There is nothing more rewarding and it is one of the best gifts a person can make. And she’s a wise person. She has an instantly beautiful bond with Pierre because of her special gift to him of a new home.

On hearing that Pierre had been at the shelter for 4 years we are told that she cried and said that she’d be around to the shelter to meet Pierre. The vet tech lives with a veterinarian so Pierre is going to be well looked after. He’ll have a golden time in the autumn of his life.

SENIOR CAT FINDS HOME AFTER 4 YEARS IN SHELTER! 3 days short of his 4 year PAWSiversary, 16-year-old Pierre will be spending tonight in his new home after a loving sendoff parade from his favorite volunteers and staff. Pierre has been nothing but spoiled at the PAWS Chicago Adoption Center for the last four years, earning him the title of King of Kitty City. 👑 But his age and diabetes always stood in the way of an adopter committing to bring him home. Today, that all changed. Adopters Madeline and Megan came in looking specifically for him, the longest term cat in our program. They have experience with special cats like Pierre and are more than willing to give him the home he truly deserves. Pierre will be doted upon for his golden years and truly be king of his home.❤️🏡 More than a few tears were shed by volunteers and staff who have gotten to know Pierre over the last few years… and we couldn’t be happier. Au revoir, Pierre! 🇫🇷 #pawschicagoalumni

There is one downside. Pierre had made close friends with the shelter staff.

“There was not a dry eye in the house.” – shelter staff pleased and sad to say goodbye.

P.S. Pierre has Turkish Van markings so he has some Turkish Van in him.
