A Pendleton dog is back safe with her owners after a Saturday morning scare in a storm drain. Ruby escaped from her backyard Saturday morning.Neighbors looked for Ruby and could hear her howling. They finally found her in a storm drain. Pendleton Animal Control Officer Norman Durham and his sons came to the rescue, using equipment to lift a drain cover about 200 feet down the road, he said. Once they lifted the drain, Ruby came right back to her owners. "This rescue was more about the love of the owner and their pet. If the dog had not responded to the owner calling through the pipe 200 feet away, things would have changed," said Durham. "It was a good day to be part of making a bad situation into a good one. Thanks to my two sons for helping make the rescue so easy."
