A dog was rescued from a burning building after being left at home unattended.

The fire erupted in a flat in the New Invention area of Willenhall.

Fire crew from Bloxwich and Willenhall were called to the low-rise flat on Lichfield Road at 6pm yesterday (July 26).

On arrival, the team discovered an item of clothing left on an electric hob was to blame for the blaze.

The black and white Jack Russell was home alone at the time of the fire so firefighters had to break into the flat.

After extinguishing the flames, the team left a note for the resident warning them of what had occurred.

The pooch was injured and is safe and well following the rescue.

Willenhall Fire tweeted: "Call to a flat fire no persons involved, Willenhall firefighters rescued the little dog from the flat he's safe and well thankfully!

"Please remember to check your home is safe before you leave also ensure your pet's safety when left unattended."
