ALOHA, Ore. (KOIN) — A dog is back on dry land after being rescued from the bottom of an old well in Aloha.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue got the call last week after the dog, named Elsa, fell through some boards that were covering the opening of the well beneath a condemned house.
Elsa fell 20 feet down but she managed to cling to some debris inside of the well.
Firefighter Michael Peterson said the crew from Station 62 had to work quickly to save Elsa because they could tell that her energy was spent and her fight was gone.
They managed to loop a rope around her front legs and torso. Peterson said Elsa put her paw through the loop as if she knew what they were trying to do.
The rescuers pulled Elsa out on their first attempt.
Other than being exhausted and wet, the 5-year-old pitbull was fine and happy to be reunited with her family.
It was a happy ending for everyone involved.
“We have our normal calls and obviously we are here to provide services to the citizens but we don’t normally get this so it felt really good,” Peterson said.
