Waynesboro cat rescued after almost 24 hours in tree

It's a story out of a '50's TV show, but for a mom and her daughters, having a kitten stuck in a tree was a very real and very worrying problem.

On Sunday evening, April Edwards went outside to find out that her kitten, Meko, was not where she expected him to be.

He was stuck about 30 feet up a tree in their neighbor's yard. Edwards said she and her daughters did everything they could to get Meko to come down, including calling for him and setting out food. A neighbor's daughter even got a ladder to try and coax Meko down.

Almost 24 hours later, Meko was still stuck in the tree on Monday afternoon. Edwards said she spent most of the morning on the phone, trying to find someone who could help get the cat down. She got very few answers.

Edwards said she and her two daughters, Jacey and Jasmine, were worried about Meko.

"We were worried, he's an inside cat, so he's not really an outside cat, so we didn't know if he'd be able to get down," she said.

Edwards was able to get in touch with Dustin Potter, from Potter's Tree Service in Staunton. Potter came out to take a look, and knew he had to help when he met Edwards' daughters in the driveway.

He climbed the tree and rescued Meko for free, and the Edwards were very happy to have Meko back on the ground.

"Oh, we're happy," Edwards said. "Meko's a part of our family, so him being up there, we were all sad, so we're just happy Meko's home."

Potter said he was happy to be able to help them out.

"It meant a lot to see them smile, so I'm glad I got to do it for them," Potter said.
