Dog rescued on Hawaii Island after chasing a mongoose, falling 40-feet down a cliff

HONOLI’I (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency crews with the Hawaii County Fire Department Monday rescued a dog that took a plunge down a Honoli’i cliff.

Officials say the dog -- an eight year old pitbull mix -- escaped its owner, and chased a mongoose around 9:45 a.m.

The dog then fell 40 feet down an 80-foot cliff and landed in a small outcrop.

A small team of rescuers assembled a rope pulley system and eventually rescued the dog.

No serious injuries were reported.
