HONOLI’I (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency crews with the Hawaii County Fire Department Monday rescued a dog that took a plunge down a Honoli’i cliff.
Officials say the dog -- an eight year old pitbull mix -- escaped its owner, and chased a mongoose around 9:45 a.m.
The dog then fell 40 feet down an 80-foot cliff and landed in a small outcrop.
A small team of rescuers assembled a rope pulley system and eventually rescued the dog.
No serious injuries were reported.
