A trending social media video shows the tiny animal seemingly trying to escape from a police station in eastern China with dozens of cherries on its spines.
Police officers in the city of Xuancheng said they 'caught the suspected thief' as it was stealing the fruit in its courtyard Friday morning.

Xuancheng police joked on Twitter-like Weibo that the 'fugitive' had completely ignored officers' 'warning' after being spotted eating cherries off the ground.
One officer, named Lin Yang, told BJ News that he and his colleagues saw the hedgehog gorging on the ripe fruit and found it 'so cute'.
Therefore they picked some more cherries from the trees and gave them to the animal.
'But, with us around, it was too scared to eat,' officer Lin told the media outlet.

Police officers ended up putting the cherries on the animal's back so 'it could take a doggy bag home'.
They filmed the footage which say said showed the animal 'fleeing to escape punishment'.
All of the cherries rolled off the hedgehog's back before the animal could make its way out of the station, officers added.
The video and pictures have gone viral in China since police released them on Friday.

A trending topic has been set up on Weibo and has been viewed more than 140 million times as of writing.
Amused by the clip, web users have left more than 15,000 comments.
One of them gushed: 'The little hedgehog is too adorable.'
Another wrote a reply from the animal's perspective: 'I have been very careful and stopped after taking every step. Why [do the cherries] keep falling? How can I explain this to my wife when I get back home?'
A third web user chimed in: 'Every time a cherry falls down, [it] would stop and hesitate if it should pick it up and eat it.'
