Edna the San Francisco Fire Department cat whose story went viral has been adopted by a member of the Ambulance Deployment Facility (AKA the fire department). After being evicted a member stepped up to adopt her as a house cat where she’ll be well cared for.
Over the past few days, ABC7 News has stayed on the case and provided the update just a few hours ago. The San Francisco Fire Department Public Information has issued a statement that in part reads
“The City received an anonymous complaint regarding a cat in the SFFD workplace at Station 49. To clarify what has been reported in the media, the workplace in question is not a Fire Station. This facility is the Department’s Ambulance Deployment Facility. Within this facility is Department Logistics, where medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals used by ambulance staff to provide crucial lifesaving emergency health care are housed. In response to the complaint, an independent investigation was conducted and concluded that having the cat in the facility compromised the sterility of supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals used on patients. Public health and safety concerns counseled removal of the cat from the premises.”
Edna has become quite famous over the weekend as cat advocates as far away as England and New Zealand have spoken up asking for Edna to stay. As of Monday evening, she has close to 26,000 Instagram followers. A Monday update reads
“Leaving Sta49. THE DEPARTMENT IS STILL EVICTING EDNA TODAY! 5yrs of unwavering love and support and they still are kicking her out. She does have somewhere to go now but it just sucks to uproot a once feral cat from her home of 5yrs and one that she could come and go as she pleased but chose to stay with unlimited 24/7 loving from 200+ amazing EMS members. All this over an “anonymous” complaint that was made with malicious intent.”
The process to make Edna an official therapy animal was started but it was ended when someone from the department offered to take her home.
Now that they’ve gotten our attention, the department is working with multiple Bay Area pet adoption agencies to organize a pet adoption day.

It’s a shame Edna couldn’t stay in the place where she grew up but it’s nice she has a forever home where she can be spoiled.
If there were 0 problems after so many years that could be attributed to the cat it is just paranoia and being a cat hater to make a ruckus. So happy this kitty has a new home instead of a death sentence.
The family who took her has other pets so it may not work out. I’ll be staying on top of this one.

At least she’s safe while this is worked out. And one of the San Francisco publications says the complaint came from within the department. So it won’t be released because employers don’t name people who make a formal complaint.
Poor Edna. She must be feeling so confused. She will find a really pawsome home that suits her well. I can see why she may need to be an only cat. 😥💜💜🐾🗝️
To the fuck that wanted this soul evicted, I hope you die a horrific death! You just can’t keep your fucking mouth shut and leave well enough alone could you!! At least this baby has a loving home. I can see she will miss her previous home as you can see by the picture.
